flyleaf: “Few people can remain completely aloof from the financial aspects of their collecting activities. With the twin nightmare of inflation and devaluation pressing hard on every side, the majority of collectors have to look carefully at their spending. But the paperweight collector is more fortunate than many. These masterpieces in miniature of the glass makers’ art are not only aesthetically satisfying; they have also prove hitherto to be a first-class investment over the years, and there is no reason to think they will not remain so. In fact, at the symposium held at the home of the late Mrs. M. Bergstrom at Neenah, Wisconsin, in June 1967, a graph was given to every collector attending. This graph showed how certain recognised types of French paperweights had risen in value during the last 15 or 20 years and proved of considerable interest to the collectors present.”

An excellent introduction to the art of fine classic period French paperweights. It is nicely illustrated in color and black & white, representing a good cross section of weights including some rare masterpieces. A section in the back has a number of good line drawings which are helpful in identifying canes and cutting patterns used by the various makers.
